A universal programming language for AI and humans

Using AI to write a program or game (to vibe-code one) no longer seems like a problem. However, there's a feeling that "automated programming" is running up against the limits of historically evolved programming languages. Why not write a programming language from scratch, built for AI while still understandable to humans who want to look it over and read it?

An interactive textbook (physics/math)

Besides combining the approaches of Karl Kuhn's "Basic Physics", Isaac Asimov's "Guide to Science" (and others), it's worth making the process interactive using modern web programming and HTML markup on a platform along the lines of the idea of Cursor for writers. You could do the same for math. Or you could combine them!

Crimson Rails: an interactive course on Ruby on Rails

As a development of the idea of fun, entertaining learning: you're an elite schemer in the age of the Industrial Revolution, where steam engines and telegraph networks conceal the conspiracies of the aristocracy. Ruby on Rails code is your "iron rails": build networks of influence, weave intrigues through web applications and move information around like railcars. The course turns MVC into spy operations: models as undercover agents, views as disguises, controllers as escape routes.

An interactive Git course: TIMELINE AGENT

Building on the idea Combining games/TV shows with learning, a course called "Timeline Agent" / "Parallel Realities", where the hero works with a system in which every commit and branch is literally a parallel timeline. Merge = merging realities, rebase = rewriting history, reflog = time travel. It fits a sci-fi / Primer vibe really well. Cultural references and sources of inspiration: the book The End of Eternity, of course, and the films Tenet, Predestination, Déjà Vu, Minority Report, In Time, etc.

Dictating an email draft on the go

The clearest wording comes to you on the road, and there's nowhere to put it down: you can't type while driving, and a voice note then has to be transcribed and edited. What's needed is something in between: you talk, and you get an email draft with a subject line and paragraphs that only needs proofreading, not reassembling from scratch.

Shade as a walking route parameter

In summer, the walk in the sun and the walk in the shade are two different walks, especially with a stroller or in the heat. The data for this already exists: building heights, street widths, the sun's position by time of day. All that's missing is the ability to build a route with the condition "keep me in the shade" rather than taking the shortest path.

A Cursor equivalent for writers

Apps for "vibe coding" like Cursor, which let you use AI in your familiar IDE, are widely known. But not only is there no app for object-oriented writing, writers don't widely use AI either.

The pickup deadline in plain sight, not in an app

A parcel sits at the pickup point for a limited time, and you learn about it from a notification long since lost among all the others. It would be enough to print the date in big type on the label itself: "pick up by such-and-such". The same trick as with price tags and expiration dates, only for delivery.

An interactive course on programming in Python

Building on the ideas Combining games/TV shows with learning and An interactive course on programming in C, the logical next step is a course on programming in, say, Python (which couldn't be better suited to teaching programming).

A returns shelf right at the pickup point

Half of all returns are things someone opened, tried on and didn't take. They travel back to the warehouse and then out to someone else again. I suggest putting a shelf at the pickup point: if you don't want it, you leave it there at a discount. The next customer takes it right away, with no second round of delivery.

A shift swap board

On any shift schedule people are always needing to swap: someone has an exam, someone has a doctor's appointment. Right now this gets sorted out through message threads and requests via the boss. A shared board is enough, where you post your shift and see who's willing to take it. All the manager has to do is approve the ready-made pair.
